Data Center Disaster Recovery Strategy Assessment & Optimization
Business and market changes in the new global economy, coupled with the explosion of digital media, have made obsolete the traditional methods of tape backup/restore for corporate disaster recovery (DR). Advances in business continuity technologies, heavier reliance on information technology (IT) systems to meet competitive e-commerce needs, and regulatory legislation are forcing top executives to reformulate their DR solutions. DR planning is not insurmountable, however. Organizations can utilize new standards, methodologies, services, and technologies to create viable DR and business continuity solutions at marginal cost.
Burton Group’s Data Center Disaster Recovery Strategy Assessment and Optimization approach starts with an assessment of the business requirements of critical and less critical applications and data availability in conjunction with the current DR infrastructure and processes.
This approach ensures that committed RPO(s) and RTO(s) are committed in alignment with business resumption capabilities and that no show-stopping technical architecture, operational capability, or business requirement-based surprises emerge in case of a disaster. Once the ideal DR topology scenario has been identified, Burton Group works with the client to build a detailed plan.
The outcome of this engagement provides you with recommendations on the following key areas:
- Scenario analysis based on Business Impact Assessment
- RPO/RTO analysis by application/data criticality
- DR scenarios Price/Performance analysis
- DR strategy recommendation
- DR site topology recommendation
Approach
We accomplish this assessment by electronically surveying up to 15 key stakeholders drawn from cross-functional groups including IT, Security, Architecture, Networking, Application Development and Maintenance, and Lines of Business executives concerned with DR. We also review the relevant documents maintained by your organization (e.g., Business Impact Analysis) in order to get a quick yet thorough understanding of your DR strategy.
After receiving the completed surveys and reviewing your documentation, Burton Group consultants will review the survey responses with your team and correlate this information with your documented Data Center DR strategy. Following the on-site meeting, Burton Group will provide you with a written assessment, which will include a series of tactical and strategic recommendations focused on the specific topics above. As would be expected, Burton Group’s recommendations are based on industry best practices, technological capabilities, your organization's unique requirements, and other specific findings of the assessment.
